Puzzle #64: White to Play; White to Tinue

Hello Takkers!

Here's an End Game where I was messing around with FlashBot. Yes, you can win by placing your last stone. But, there is at least 1 good Tinue option available.

For the purpose of this puzzle, Tinue is defined as a board state in which no matter what the opposing player does during their turn (Black, in this instance), a road win will be awarded to the other player (White) on their next turn. If you are familiar with Chess, Tinue is very similar to Checkmate.

Please form your answer with PTN or a link to your solution via ptn.ninja. And, remember to add the r/Tak spoiler tag to your solution so as not to ruin it for others. To do this, put your answer in brackets and follow with (/spoiler). Ex:  [26. a3- Sa3](/spoiler).

To narrow things down to a single solution for this puzzle, I am looking for the board state of Tinue achieved in 3 moves (this would mean the win would occur in 5 moves).

I believe all responses by Black are singular and forced. If the response is not singular and forced, then any response results in the same following move by White or the defensive moves by Black have ready responses by White and those defense/offense pairs are interchangeable in regards to order. Of course, I could have made a mistake...in that case, let me know so I can fix it or, at least, apologize.

There are a couple other Tinue options that are not far off; you are welcome to post those as well.

Enjoy!!

Puzzle #63: Black to Play; Best Move

Good evening, all!

This week's puzzle has Black up by 2 flats in an End Game scenario. The challenge is to figure out what moves Black can make to guarantee the win.

Please form your answer using PTN and include the spoiler tag to preserve the puzzle for others. To form the spoiler tag on reddit, put the sensitive part of your answer in brackets followed by (/spoiler).

Ex:  [6. a4 Cb4](/spoiler).

You can take this out 1 turn, or follow it all the way until the end. If listing out the PTN is not to your liking, you can post a link to your solution via ptn.ninja.

If you are interested in seeing how the game got to this point, here is the link.

I hope you enjoy these puzzles! Over the next few weeks, I think I'm going to get back to the basics, as I've noticed some new players on the Reddit and Discord.

If you have requests for puzzles, feel free to post them in the comments or email me at bill.leighton1@gmail.com.

Have fun!!

Puzzle #62: What Was Black's Mistake?

Good evening fellow Takkers!

This week I decided to do a different type of puzzle. I had a fairly decent game against level 10 Flashbot during my lunch Monday. I thought about picking a single board state to make a "Best Move" puzzle out of, but then thought that it would be neat to have you guys figure out the biggest mistake that Flashbot made during the course of the game.

In addition to, or in place of a mistake, you can identify and post what you feel is the turning point of the game.

P.S. If you find any mistakes that I made during the game, I'd like to hear those, too. Ex:  Missed Tinue, sub-par movement/placement, etc.

P.P.S Let me know how you like this type of puzzle or if you have suggestions for what I post in the future.

Enjoy!!

Puzzle #61: Black to Play; Black to Tinue

Good evening, all!

Here's an interesting game I had with AaaarghBot this week. It had a decent Tinue ending, but as I went back and reviewed it, I found some other branches from this board state that also ended in Tinue and so I thought I would make a puzzle out of it.

There are a few variations on these, so I won't state the number of moves until Tinue; I want to see what you come up with.

For the purpose of this puzzle, Tinue is defined as a board state in which no matter what the opposing player does during their turn (White, in this instance), a road win will be awarded to the other player (Black) on their next turn.

If you are interested in seeing how the game got to this point, here it is.

Enjoy!
